As visitors and passengers enter Terminal 1 of Changi Airport in Singapore, they're greeted by a huge moving sculpture. Kinetic Rain consists of 604 water droplets made of lightweight aluminum. Each is suspended by a thin wire from its own motor in the ceiling.
The magic begins as these raindrops move in perfect synchronicity. Computers precisely raise and lower each drop into captivating patterns. Within 15 minute loops, they fluidly transform into a series of aviation-themed shapes, including a flock of birds, a hot air balloon, and of course, an airplane.
Kinetic Rain was built by a German design team of artists and programmers from Art+Com. It is the world's largest kinetic art sculpture.
