CD Shard Sculptures by Sean E. Avery

Sean E. Avery, of Perth, Australia, is a graphic designer. He writes and illustrates kid’s books with funky, imaginative characters. What I’d like to focus on, however, is his work as a sculptor, which, as he says, “is all about re-purposing the discarded to make something beautiful.”

He starts by bending a wire mesh material to form the frame. He cuts up used and unwanted compact discs into various shapes and sizes; a pair of ordinary kitchen shears is his weapon of choice. He hot-glues each shard in patterns to replicate feathers or fur.

What a creative way to reuse and recycle!

Which is your favorite?
As much as I hate to admit it, I think mine is the rat. (!)
