Monsters Among Us Via Subway Doodle

To help pass the commuting time on the New York City subway
between Brooklyn and Manhattan, it started by taking photos
then sketching and doodling in some monsters with an iPad.
It caught on, and Subway Doodle became a phenomenon!
Here's a look at these big, somehow lovable, blue monsters.

The monsters have come up out of the subway and into the city!

Subway Doodle is generously donating 100% of the proceeds
from the sales of this print, "Helping Hands,"
to help out with the hurricane recovery efforts
for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean!

Petri Dish Mold Crocheted by Elin Thomas

Though I don't know what grades Elin Thomas got in science class,
her experiments with a crochet hook get an A+ for sure!
Take a look under our microscope at these petri dishes of mold
crocheted by one very talented and clever artist!

Hiking the Falls Trail at Rickett's Glen State Park, PA

My husband and I recently visited Rickett's Glen State Park,
13,050 acres of lush, natural beauty in northeastern Pennsylvania.
We hiked the Falls Trail and were thrilled by the stunning waterfalls,
the largest being Ganoga Falls, at 94 feet high.

This isn't an easy hike; the trail is steep going downhill one way,
with a steep uphill climb on the returning loop.
It's not the ideal adventure for anyone with physical concerns.

The falls are surrounded by nature at its finest:
a variety of trees, ferns, moss, and majestic outcrops of rock.
October's glorious changing foliage was well underway.
The stream accompanied us as we hiked,
whether as a gentle trickle or as a loud roar at the falls.
The air seemed cleaner, the atmosphere serene.
If you love to hike in the great outdoors,
this is the place for you!

Here's the Rickett's Glen website.
They're also on Facebook.

The Fade-away Girls of Coles Phillips

The illustrations of American artist Coles Phillips have captured my attention.
His trademark fade-away technique is an intriguing use of negative space;
the edges of the focal point meld into a background of the same color.

Born in Springfield, Ohio, Phillips was an artist through the 1920s,
among the first to incorporate the art deco style into advertising.
He was a well-known cover illustrator for magazines such as Good Housekeeping,
LifeColliersLadies’ Home JournalMcCall’s, and Saturday Evening Post.
These are some of his "Fade-away Girls."

Creative Stamp People Collages by dosankodebbie

Debbie Davidson, aka dosankodebbie, of Japan, is an etegami artist.
Her recent "Stamp People" project is a creative collection of collages.
I know you'll enjoy seeing how these postage stamps came alive through art!

A few years back, I had the pleasure of interviewing Debbie.
You can read that blog post and learn more about etegami here!
